Allow "Copy Previous Chart" Across Template Versions
We love the Copy Previous Chart feature, but there is one limitation that significantly impacts clinical workflows.
Currently, if a chart template is modified (for example, by adding a new field, checkbox, consent item, or assessment section), previously completed charts can no longer be copied until the patient has one visit completed using the new version of the template.
For medical practices, chart templates are living documents that are continuously improved. We frequently add new assessment fields, safety questions, documentation requirements, or treatment options as our protocols evolve. Every template update temporarily breaks the ability to copy previous charts for all returning patients, creating substantial additional documentation work.
Suggested improvement:
Please implement template version compatibility so that previous charts can still be copied after a template has been updated.
For example:
Copy all fields that exist in both the previous and current template.
Leave any newly added fields blank (or populate them with default values if configured).
Ignore fields that have been removed from the template.
Preserve photo annotations whenever possible.
Notify the user that the chart was copied from an earlier template version.
This behavior is common in many EMRs and would allow practices to continuously improve their documentation without disrupting daily workflow.
For high-volume aesthetic practices with thousands of returning patients, this enhancement would save a significant amount of time while encouraging ongoing improvements to chart templates instead of discouraging them.
Thank you for considering this feature.
