Disposable / Virtual BINs / Virtual Credit Cards Abuse
An increasing number of first-time clients are booking online with virtual or disposable credit cards (Revolut, Privacy.com, etc.). When they no-show and we attempt to collect the cancellation fee, but the card is declined because it’s been deactivated. The result: lost revenue, wasted staff time, and appointment slots that could have gone to paying customers.
Other booking platforms are starting to address this problem and I hope that BLVD can follow suit as it is becoming a big issue for us.
Below are some potential solutions that BLVD should consider:
Virtual Card BIN Detection
• Flag or block known disposable/virtual BIN ranges at booking.
• Prompt client to enter a standard, non-disposable card before confirming
Mandatory Pre-Auth or Capture at Booking
• Option to automatically pre-authorize or capture the full cancellation fee at booking, with the hold released only if the appointment is completed or canceled in time.
• Allow pre-auth amounts above $1 to lock funds and deter disposable cards.
Dynamic Deposit Rules
• Allow deposits to be set by client type (e.g., higher deposit for new clients or peak-time services or specific repeat no-show offenders).
• Auto-require deposits for clients without an established booking history.
Enhanced Fraud Scoring
• Integrate card risk scoring (e.g., Stripe Radar-like features) to flag cards with high likelihood of being prepaid or disposable.
These changes would go a long way toward preventing lost revenue and improving the booking integrity for all Boulevard users.
Thanks!
